System Design

The design of the Intersect EHR was led by a team of Henry Ford Health System' physicians. They had the benefit of being experienced EHR users and were able to design their requirements from that background. Their previous system had been in use for 22 years.

They also had the benefit of substantial resources and weren’t burdened with the pressure of trying to trade off investor demands against feature and user interests. Those same resources enabled them to acquire the expertise of highly accomplished software developers.

The development team's requirements, in addition to those for advanced care delivery features, were for a system that would be configurable to different clinical specialties in order to meet the needs of over 1,200 physicians practicing in over 40 specialties and different care settings. They didn’t want screens cluttered with information that wasn’t relevant to their practice or current setting.

Physicians also wanted a system that would increase their efficiencies rather than slow them down. They wanted the information they needed to be easily available—without searching or clicking through multiple screens of irrelevant information.

They didn’t want to waste valuable time entering repetitive data again and again.

Providers knew exactly what they wanted, and the Intersect EHR™ is the fulfillment of those requirements.
